In the Spotlight this week, we have the marvelous Taryn, from Twinkle & Toast! Specializing in one-of-a-kind custom wedding invitation suites that are both meaningful and unique in style, Taryn joins us from San Diego, California!
Tell us a little bit about you and your business! How did you start Twinkle & Toast?
“My business Twinkle & Toast is a custom wedding invitation design studio, focused on creating meaningful wedding suites that are fully tailored to the couple’s story, preferences, personalities and style.
I have a background in art and event planning, but once I discovered the world of hand lettering, I was hooked. I slowly refined my calligraphy craft, incorporating it into printed paper goods, which evolved to a full wedding stationery company.”
What is the 'why' behind Twinkle & Toast?
“I firmly believe a wedding should express exactly how you feel and the life you want to create. Live your truth! If that means it’s a classic, all white, black tie affair, or an eccentric, rainbow glitter extravaganza. Plan your wedding without regret and stay true to who you are.
I strive to create an encouraging environment where our couples are free to express themselves in the design process and to see their identities realized in the final product.”

What was the turning moment when you decided to start your own business?
“I started my business as a side hustle to my full time job. I put in a lot of blood, sweat and tears getting it off the ground, and worked my butt off at both jobs. It came to a breaking point where something had to give. I wasn’t sure if I was ready, but would I ever be fully ready? I jumped into it with both feet and made it my only form of income five years ago and never looked back. It was definitely scary, but the best (calculated) risk I ever took.”
What do you find to be the hardest thing about running your own business and what are you doing to manage this?
“Working from home has a ton of perks, but it can get very lonely. I find myself getting into slumps and feeling a little stir crazy. I have to make a lot of big decisions alone, and it can get stressful when you have no one to turn to for confirmation.
I make an effort to reach out to my community, and I also occasionally work out of a small, female-owned, local community co-working space. I seek out those who align with my values and understand the complexities of running a small business. I recognize when I need to take care of myself and allow for the time to do so.”
- What is your best stationery tip or trick? “Always be open to learning new things and be a perpetual student in your craft. Understand you don’t always have the best solution, and be open to finding a new way of doing something. You’d be surprised in how much your creativity and final product can soar when you don’t get stuck in your ways.”
- Favorite vacation spot? “Maui or Cabo”
- Where do you love seeing wax seals? “Love seeing wax seals on day of stationery like escort cards and menus!”
